Mental Armor

Dye-sub print on polyester
10 pieces, 100 x 100 cm each

With this series of computer-generated pictures on textiles, Hurtig also refers to the corruption of elements of eastern religions in capitalist mass production. Is a cheap Buddha figure from the DIY store not the garden gnome of the twenty-first century? In the same way, meditation techniques used for self-optimization may be more like mental armor than a genuine path. The Buddha pictures were all generated by AI; rather than the religious figure, they recall an artificially created being like a golem, a homunculus, or Frankenstein’s monster.
